Last night we celebrated a friend's 30th birthday! But, first...dinner: group of us went to Yama before the party. For the New Yorkers reading, Yama is really good sushi - it's not Sushi of Gari or Sushi Seki, but it's good. Trust me on this one.
We started with these:
The ordering method at Yama always seems to encourage over ordering, though because the diners fill out a small card noting how many of each piece everyone wants.
We were four people (including 3 grown men with big sushi appetites) and wound up with this:
Plus this small plate because the boat wasn't enough couldn't fit everything:
6 salmon sashimi + 4 salmon sushi
1 king crab sashimi + 1 king crab sushi
3 chopped toro sushi + 1 chopped toro sashimi
1 salmon roe sushi
5 tuna sushi
4 yellowtail sushi
2 sweet shrimp sushi
1 octopus sushi
1 eel sushi
5 mackerel sushi
1 yellowtail scallion roll
1 eel avocado roll
1 spicy king crab roll
1 asparagus tempura roll
1 tuna, avocado and shrimp roll
Everything was so good, but my favorites were the salmon and king crab sashimi, plus the tuna avocado and shrimp roll.
Then to the party! Our friend's husband ordered his wife this sweet chocolate birthday cake. Lots of frosting diamonds and jewelry...a girl after my own heart!
Boo and I shared a tasty slice:
Hope you had a great Saturday night, too...
What's your go to sushi roll? What's your favorite flavor of cake?
xx,
The Future Mrs. Wolf
That is by far, the greatest sushi boat I have ever seen!
