More Kitchen Updates

If you're following me on Instagram and Twitter, you may have noticed I spent much of Saturday printing our engagement photos at home. We bought a new printer about 6 months ago, and this is the first time I've tried DIY printing. See you never, Duane Reade -- there's a new printer in town. 

Carly is printing four photos for us (one each of 11x14, 8x10, 5x7 and 4x6) but because we have the rights to the pictures, we can print and distribute them as we wish.

Note to brides-to-be: get the rights! Without them you don't technically own the photos (even though they're of your wedding...) and you'll likely have to pay your photographer for every print you'd like. Which, if you're like any bride I know, will be a lot. 

We decided to print a test photo to be sure we knew how to properly insert the paper and use the settings. I am happy to report this could not be easier. And now we're almost fresh out of photo paper because I cannot stop. 

The first photo we chose was taken by Carly during our engagement session. I love coffee (and Boo!), so how perfect to pair them together?  Here's the sweet photo I am gushing about:

So what to do with it? Frame it of course! And hang it in the kitchen! In our coffee nook! Yes!

Here's where we started:

The steps couldn't be easier: we measured the space above the coffee machines and centered the photo between the cabinets. A few bangs of a hammer later, we had ourselves a hook to hang on!  That, my friends, was a wrap.

Doesn't it look sweet? I love this photo and coincidentally the colors tie in perfectly with the rest of the kitchen: the color of the coffee is almost identical to the cabinets, and the stainless frame picks up the stainless appliances, knobs, canisters, spice jars and soap dispensers.  And it holds a special place in our heart (no pun intended) since it was taken during our engagement session.

Sunday Snapshots 4.28.13

Today is our two year anniversary!  Happy anniversary, Boo!  And we've been busy celebrating and eating lots of food...Here are a few shots from the weekend.

Last night we went to dinner at Aureole!

I made thin crust pizza topped with tomatoes, garlic sauteed spinach and feta cheese:

Engagement Photos: The Planning Process

I wish I could tell you that Boo and I frolicked aimlessly around Manhattan with our sweet photographer, Carly from Carly Michelle Photography. But that's not what happened. For those who don't really know me (besides this section of the interwebs) -- aimless is not a term I would use to describe myself. 

I knew I didn't want a traditional NYC engagement shoot in Central Park. While beautiful, it wasn't what I had in mind. After all, I'm not having a traditional wedding...and I'm all about serious urban chic. So, naturally urban chic is what I got. 

For a solid week I walked the streets of NYC making note of interesting little nooks of this wild city. A sweet cobblestone street here...a lovely old facade there...an interestingly painted stoop...an elaborately designed warehouse exterior -- these were the backdrops I had envisioned. 

So like any normal bride control freak planner, I mapped out our route.  We didn't have Carly all day -- I wanted to maximize our time with her. And I couldn't risk missing a shot!  Using Google Maps, I entered each of our destinations and figured out the order which made the most logical sense.  I had 10 stops including two potential "looks" that could be shot anywhere. 

Carly suggested we bring an outfit change, so we could mix up the looks. Yay!! Shopping spree!! Sorry, Boo. 

Anyway, so many things ran through my mind...Where would I put my bag during the shots? Where would we change (we weren't close to our apartment)? Who would hold my prop? This all boiled down to: where is my assistant? Oh right. Nonexistent. Sh*t...

But, Carly prevailed.  She was totally calm and had things under control -- everything went smoothly. And I am so happy.  

For us, planning was key. I had secured my hair and makeup team for trials on our shoot day: I wanted to see what the hair and makeup looked like on camera, and I really wanted to look "done" for our shoot.

I had picked our outfits (Boo gave me full reign on that one) and wanted to be sure we looked put together without matching.  I also packed multiple pairs of shoes: black Louboutins, gold Jimmy Choo flats and "walking" shoes for between shots (plus a couple pairs for me -- Boo loves his pumps! -- LOL! jk). 

The morning of, everything was set and ready to go...

What I Ate Wednesday 4.24.13

Greetings from The Wolf Den (I don't use that phrase enough, do I?).  Curious about what I've been munching today?  Probably not.  But, in case you are...here we go:

Breakfast -- I made a berry fiber breakfast, hold the berries today.  We were out, so I had cottage cheese and raspberry jam on fiber crackers:

Plus this little beauty, thanks to Boo:

No time for a morning snack at work...but I did stay hydrated all day with this x 4 (what can I say?  I love seltzer...):

Lunch -- veggie burger with avocado, red onion, roasted garlic, cherry tomatoes, edamame, feta cheese and Cajun seasoning:

When I came home from work, I snacked on a yogurt.  I'm not a huge banana fan...I'm a fair-weather banana fan.  Sometimes I like them, sometimes I do not.  This was one was almost-too-ripe, but I enjoyed it with some apple cinnamon Chobani (because, duh, everything is better with apple cinnamon Chobani):

Dinner -- Boo brought home tacos...OMG THEY WERE SO GOOD and I ate them out of the tinfoil.

This last tasty bite was totally gluttonous and amazing.  It was basically a fried ball of cheese and mushrooms with some lettuce on top.  It was called a quesadilla on the menu...obviously something got lost in translation.  But who cares?  It was so good:

As if that wasn't enough, we shared this guacamole.  It was good, similar to my version (lots of lime!): 

Who doesn't love a good guac close up?  I could swim in guacamole.  Seriously: why so good?

Wedding Food Tasting

We had our food tasting scheduled as soon as we booked our caterer. Priorities, right?  It just so happened, we had our tasting on the day I bought my wedding dress. It was a wedding-planning-filled-weekend!  We invited our mothers to join us - the more the merrier!

Our caterer, Yen at Real Food Catering, is like a little magical genius. She hosted our tasting three hours before another wedding was set to begin. And things went off without a hitch - no pun intended.  Our table was set beautifully in an out-of-the-way corner of Studio450, so we could be there without interfering with the reception set up.  The bride and groom had gotten married off-site so there wasn't post ceremony breakdown like there will be at our wedding.  And we were able to see the space set up in a different way than we had imagined it, thanks to a bride and groom with lovely taste. My mum and I took notes of little things we liked (spoiler alert: candles!). 

In terms of the tasting, I really didn't know what to expect - half portions? One bite tastes? One plate to share amongst the four of us? Oh how wrong I was...

Yen served us 9 appetizers, 3 salads, and 6 entrees, countless glasses of wine, champagne and water. No one would leave hungry that day!  I realize it sounds like we attended a rager (with our mums!) but it was tame. More food coma than alcohol induced coma...

I won't share our exact menu, but I can tell you it will be tasty and bountiful. ..

Little Changes In The Kitchen

It's no secret that I'm obsessed with Target.  Or maybe it is -- in which case, now the cat's out of the bag.  

I love a good Sunday afternoon perusing the aisles. (By the way, have you seen the new Threshold line?  Too cute! So many goodies!)

I recently saw these ladies on the shelves of the home section and had to have them!  I bought two - one for dish soap and one for hand soap. The chrome pumps match our kitchen finishes perfectly and play off the chrome in our spice rack and large storage containers next to the coffee pots. 

Here's where we started:

To fill, I emptied our favorite Mrs. Meyers hand soap and dish soap into the glass jars. Done! How easy was that?  

I should mention I let them sit for a while: 

Boo thought (thinks!) I was a nut, but who wants to waste any lavender?! Not us me...

I love these additions to our kitchen.  And after all -- it's the little things, right?
